Mugs pinned by Jessica Ray from westelm.com
I came across this thread on one of my favourite forums, MoneySavingExpert.com. I love this site for discovering new ways to be thrifty and inventive, and as I love a good deal, it appeals to the side of me which loves a bargain!
This thread was all about uses for old chipped mugs which were still pretty but not really hygienic to keep using (apparently bacteria get soaked into the fabric of the mug and propagate there which is pretty gross!). There were some fab ideas so I thought I’d share them with you along with some inspirational pics I found on pinterest and pinned to our boards:

Fantastic article, I must admit that I hadn’t thought of re-using smashed crockery and would usually send them to the dump along with the rest of the house trash. With money being a little tight these days, it’s refreshing to read idea’s on recycling old items instead of splashing out on what is basically non essential goods. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for your comment Adam and glad we have been able to inspire you to reuse and recycle instead of throwing away!
Mosaic with broken mugs and plates. Could cover a old vase, table top, garden wall or garden step ons, mirror, cupboard, plant pot, bird bath. Could use pebbles, coloured glass bottles, mirrors and shells as well as chipped mugs and plates. I hope you make items as amazing as the great Antoni Gaudi did.
Some great ideas for mosaics using lots of materials from around the home – thank you Jen! Smith x
